WHAT WE WILL COVER IN OUR PROSTATE HEALTH TALK TODAY

What is prostate?

The prostate is a gland that produces some of the fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation. The prostate gland surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine passes out of the body. An enlarged prostate means the gland has grown bigger. Prostate enlargement happens to almost all men as they get older.

The prostate's most important function is the production of a fluid that, together with sperm cells from the testicles and fluids from other glands, makes up semen. The muscles of the prostate also ensure that the semen is forcefully pressed into the urethra and then expelled outwards during ejaculation.

How big is the prostate?

Your prostate is about the size of a walnut.

The prostate usually gets larger after age 40 (benign prostatic hyperplasia). It can grow from the size of a walnut to the size of a lemon. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) isn’t cancerous, and it doesn’t increase your risk of developing prostate cancer.

How much does your prostate weigh?

Your prostate weighs about 1 ounce (30 grams), which is as heavy as five U.S. quarters.

Whereas Prostate Enlargement talks about

The prostate gland surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine passes out of the body. An enlarged prostate means the gland has grown bigger. Prostate enlargement happens to almost all men as they get older. An enlarged prostate is often called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

What is benign prostatic hyperplasia?

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition in which the prostate gland grows larger than normal, but the growth is not caused by cancer.

The prostate has two main growth phases. The first growth phase happens early in puberty NIH external link, when the prostate doubles in size. The second growth phase starts around age 25 and continues throughout life.1 BPH often occurs late in the second growth phase

Best Things to support prostate health

UNDERSTANDING HORMONES AND ENZYMES

1. LYCOPENE

(Red pigment found in a lot of fruits and vegetables similar to Vitamin A)

Functionalities for the prostate gland

1. It inhibits 5-alpha reductase

(Inhibits conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone: This improve proper urine flow without any difficulty.)

2. Inhibits Cyclooxygenase to reduce inflammation of the prostate gland.

3.

2. PYGEUM

Pygeum is the name for extracts, teas, and supplements that come from the bark of a tree native to Africa called Prunus africana.

  1. Pygeum contains chemicals that help shrink the prostate in males with enlarged prostates. This might relieve urinary problems such as poor urine flow and nighttime urination.

2.  It seems to help some men with BPH wake up less at night to pee, go fewer times during the day, have a stronger urine stream, and empty their bladders completely.

3. SAW PALMETTO

Today, the primary use of saw palmetto is to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. It contains plant-based chemicals that may be effective for BPH.

4. SELENIUM

Studies have reported selenium supplementation to lower serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels among men with high-risk for prostate enlargement.

5. PUMPKIN SEED

A handful of pumpkin seeds a 2-3 times a week can improve your prostate health. They may limit prostate enlargement. Pumpkin seeds contain phytosterol, which is a protective compound that may be responsible for reducing prostate enlargement. They potentially(significantly) reduce BPH symptoms

Pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seed oil have become popular treatments for the reduction of prostate enlargement. Pumpkin seeds are packed with nutrition and are proven to support prostate health. This is due to three reasons.

1. They are rich in zinc. Normal prostate function relies on optimal zinc levels. For this reason, a handful of pumpkin seeds a 2-3 times a week can improve your prostate health.

2. They may limit prostate enlargement. Pumpkin seeds contain phytosterol, which is a protective compound that may be responsible for reducing prostate enlargement.

3. They potentially reduce BPH symptoms. BPH stands for benign prostatic hyperplasia. BPH is caused by changes in hormone balance. Pumpkin seed oil can help prevent the multiplication of overstimulated prostate cells, levelling hormones.
